What accessories are available for instruments: Consumer tips
Many instruments cannot be played without additional accessories. To play the piano, you need a piano bench, for the violin, a violin bow, and for the electric guitar, an instrument cable to amplify the sound at the amp. If you want to transport your favourite piece, you need a protective bag, or better yet, an instrument case. Drums are only complete with cymbals and additional hardware. So, you can't do without accessories.
Guitar accessories
To play the guitar, most people need a plectrum, which comes in various strengths and materials, as very few can play with their fingers. If the chords are to be amplified, a jack cable and an amplifier are needed. Here, you can choose between a classic tube amp, a transistor amplifier, or a modern modelling amp. The latter comes with several sound emulations onboard and is well-equipped for every music style. With an effect pedal, the sound can be further shaped. Whether it's overdrive pedals for distorted sounds or delay and reverb for spatial sounds. When you're done playing, the instrument goes back into the guitar stand or instrument case. If you're going out for a rehearsal, a gig bag offers optimal protection and is not as heavy as a case.
Drum accessories
No drum kit is complete without cymbals and the appropriate hardware. For snare drums, toms, and cymbals, there are height-adjustable stands and holders. The hi-hat stand, in particular, must be especially stable, as it otherwise moves too much while drumming. You also can't do without a foot pedal, as it is needed for the bass drum. Whether it should be a simple or a double foot pedal depends on the music style. To avoid standing all the time, you should also buy a comfortable drum stool. For beginners, a matched cymbal set is recommended. These are usually made of brass. Better cymbals are made from a B8 or B20 alloy. The number indicates how much tin is in the cymbals. The heavier a cymbal, the louder it is. In a rock band, this may be appropriate, but if you want to achieve a particularly dynamic sound, you prefer cymbals with the label medium or thin. You also need a set of drumsticks for drumming. These are usually made from American hickory wood, oak, or maple and come in various sizes. The size used is very individual and depends on the music style. The more powerful the drummer plays, the sturdier the drumsticks should be, as they wear out too quickly otherwise. For jazz or country musicians, there are brushes to generate a softer sound. If you want to transport your drums safely from A to B, it is advisable to protect them with cases or soft bags. There are also special rollable road cases for the hardware, so nothing stands in the way of your own gig.
Accessories for pianists
To play the piano for extended periods, you need a comfortable piano bench or a good piano stool. Both have a height-adjustable and padded seat. However, you sit more stably on a piano bench. Some models also have a storage compartment to accommodate sheet music or other accessories. If you want to play together, there are special double piano benches. If you prefer something exclusive, the market also offers benches made from fine woods and leather upholstery. If the lighting conditions are not optimal, it can be difficult to read your sheet music properly. Piano lights help with this and provide the necessary visibility. You can either place them on the piano or, if there is no space, there are special clip lights. If the lamp has a gooseneck, it can be optimally positioned. To keep in time and improve your sense of rhythm, it is advisable to practice with a metronome. Anyone who owns an electric piano can breathe a sigh of relief, as they already have it built-in. Generally, a distinction is made between mechanical and digital metronomes. Mechanical metronomes are powered by a spring and run entirely without electricity, whereas their digital counterparts cannot function without a battery. The great advantage of a digital metronome is that it can also be used without an acoustic tone. In both variants, the beats per minute can be set. With 40 – 208 beats, every speed is covered.
