In air cooling with water discharge (condensation drying), a fan directs the warm, moist air over a heat exchanger. To prevent the evaporator from freezing at low temperatures, the device should have an automatic defrosting process. Additionally, an electronic hygrometer switches the device off (or to a lower power) as soon as a certain level of relative humidity is reached. For devices with a condensate container, the water level is monitored, and the device is switched off when the condensate container is full. In absorption in hygroscopic liquids, the air to be dried is directed over a hygroscopic liquid by a fan. There, the water vapour passes into the hygroscopic solution and dilutes it. After a certain time, the hygroscopic liquid needs regeneration. This usually occurs through heating. In the adsorption of water vapour, the air to be dried is directed over an adsorbent (silica gel or molecular sieve) by a fan. The water vapour from the moist air adheres to it and condenses. The adsorbent also requires regeneration after a certain time. This usually occurs through drying with hot air or, in the case of a molecular sieve, internally in two drying containers.
