Coffee machine: consumer tips
In the hospitality industry, they are widely used alongside traditional espresso machines. However, manufacturers like Jura, DeLonghi, and Saeco have been offering coffee machines for home use for several years now. The operation and basic equipment are practically the same for all machines. However, there are some differences in terms of operation and additional features. Our guide therefore presents various options.
Why coffee from a machine tastes so wonderful
Anyone who enjoys coffee should own a machine. Unlike a conventional filter coffee maker, the machine grinds the beans for each cup and then forces water through the ground coffee under high pressure of about 9 bar. This short and intense process results in fewer bitter substances in the coffee, giving you an aromatic drink with a fine layer of foam. The operation of coffee machines is similar. The devices consist of a grinder, a flow heater, and a brewing unit. A bean container and a water tank provide the necessary ingredients. The machine is controlled via buttons. A display can make operation easier.
Machines with milk tank and steamer for daily coffee enjoyment
Most coffee machines are equipped with a milk frother. With the steamer, you can either draw hot water for tea or create fine milk foam with the steam. However, some machines also have a milk tank that is used for preparing milk coffee or cappuccino. If you frequently drink milk coffee, a machine with an additional tank is a good idea. However, keep in mind that you need to regularly clean the hoses and containers. Additionally, any residues can negatively affect the taste.
A good choice: coffee machines with integrated filter system
Over time, limescale builds up in the pipes of coffee machines. Especially very hard water promotes limescale formation in the machine. The devices alert you through a display notification or by lighting up an LED. You then need to descale the machine with a special solution. However, you can also slow down this process by purchasing a machine with a filter system. In these models, special filter cartridges are used to soften the water before the actual preparation. While the filters cannot completely prevent limescale, regular maintenance is less extensive.
Easy operation and maintenance: important features of coffee machines
A clear control panel with labelled buttons and knobs on the front makes brewing coffee easier. Easy cleaning and maintenance of the machine are also important. Some machines have a fixed brewing unit and operate with automatic cleaning processes. Other models are equipped with a removable brewing unit that you can clean under running water to remove coffee residues. Regular rinsing processes keep the pipes clean and ensure unclouded enjoyment.
