Nursing/Baby food accessories: Consumer tips
Nursing pillow
Additionally, the spine is relieved by the support of the legs and the belly.
Nursing pillows can be up to two metres long and weigh up to four kilograms, differing in their filling material. EPS beads make the large pillows pleasantly light and flexible. They are also durable, hygienic, and hypoallergenic.
Furthermore, there are fillings with grain husks (mainly spelt husks), which absorb body heat, are adaptable, and maintain their shape - however, they are also twice as heavy as a pillow with, for example, polystyrene filling. This filling is only recommended for allergy sufferers with caution, and nursing pillows with grain husk fillings require intensive care, meaning they must be aired out regularly and especially dried, as otherwise dangerous mould can develop.
A light and natural alternative to grain husk filling is wool balls. However, the disadvantages here are that the wool fleece, once it becomes damp, is difficult to dry out again, and babies are also cradled as if on a cotton wool pillow - if one tries to stuff the pillow more firmly with wool fleece, it loses its flexibility.
Breast pumps
If a mother cannot breastfeed or if the father should have the opportunity to feed the child with a bottle, then a breast pump is sensible. Under hygienically impeccable conditions, milk is pumped/sucked into sterile bottles and fed as fresh as possible. There is a distinction between manual pumps and electric breast pumps, with the electric ones being significantly more pleasant and comfortable. The electric breast pump should suck in the same physiological rhythm as the baby when breastfeeding, as this supports milk production. Additionally, it should be handy (thus also portable for on the go) and the suction strength should be adjustable. All parts that come into contact with breast milk must be able to be boiled and cleaned.
Baby food warmers
With baby food warmers, one can warm porridge, milk, or sugar-free tea for newborns or toddlers. It is important to ensure that they are suitable for both bottles (including grip bottles and wide-neck bottles) and jars. A sterilising function for the bottles is practical, as is a 12 V adapter for the car, so that one can easily and within a few minutes bring a baby meal to the optimal temperature even when on the go, as well as a setting that stops heating after reaching the specified temperature, only keeping it warm to prevent burns or scalds in the mouth or oesophagus.
