It will be automatically recognised by the switcher and activated accordingly. Some HDMI switchers also allow switching via a remote control. However, there are also HDMI switchers that allow for manual switching. In this case, the switch button on the HDMI switcher is pressed, allowing you to switch between the connected devices. An HDMI switcher is only sensible if you want to connect multiple devices to your television and use them alternately.

If you want to purchase an HDMI switcher for a low price, you will probably have to settle for manual switching directly on the device. However, this option is still more straightforward than unplugging various cables. In the higher price ranges, you can then get switching via remote control or even automatic switching. Depending on your needs and preferences, you will need to dig deeper into your pockets. In cheaper switchers, the pins inside the connector are often not very strong, so a secure connection cannot always be guaranteed. This can lead to "HDMI dropouts" and thus transmission errors. Compared to switch boxes, HDMI switchers are often much more compact, making them easier to connect in tight spaces and taking up less room.
