I...View More don't know why it's suggested for an age of >10 months, but I bought it for my 6-month baby who started playing on the floor, doing tummy time etc. You can set it up in a smaller size by using less tiles. It didn't have any bad smell or something.View Less

The mat itself is very good, comfy and it isolates the cold floor. The problem I found is that I ordered a second one few months after the first and the size turned out to be a bit smaller.
