Works great... until it doesn't. This door has been completely unreliable. The Cat's microchip has to be placed perfectly for it to be read and for the door to open, and the door still randomly stops working. We learned...View More this the hard way. Poor kitty. Now we check and reset the door constantly. It's not working more than half the time. It's very frustrating after spending so much money. We ordered and installed a PetSafe cat door in April 2022. This initially worked very well. At the end of November 2022, the LED flashed red, indicating an error. Resetting the cat door did nothing. It was simply defective.

I installed this product, and then paired the PetSafe key tag successfully. But then I couldn't get it to actually open with the key tag. After reading the instructions very carefully I learned there's a motion sensor...View More that activates first, and lights and LED when motion is detected. I assume this motion detector uses much less power than the tag reader, so it's a two-stage activation for the tag reader to save the batteries. Our neighborhood raccoon can pull the flap outward and crawl right in. I need a door that reads the chip in both directions. This only reads on the way in.

We have had a Sure Flap microchip flap for about 10 years. The latter was unavailable so we chose this for a neighbour who had a basic cat flap with uncontrolled access. We encountered a problem with this product, the cat...View More learned to enter/exit her old flap feet first (our cat enters/exits head first) and doesn't activate the flap lock.
