Biological filter material which is degraded by bacteria to remove algae-promoting nitrate from freshwater and marine water Just add filter material to internal or external filter and only refill when it has been degraded by the bacteria after approx. 6 month Bacteria settle on the bio balls and form a thick biofilm. I've used this before and it sems to work brilliantly. It doesn't happen overnight and I do find it hard to estimate when the bio balls need replacing. They are a little messy once they are active, and yes, they are...View More expensive, however, undeniably they seem to reduce my nitrate levels. My tapwater is 30ppm whilst my tank (with 15% water changes per week) is usually in the 5 - 10ppm range. Before I used this product it would be around 20ppm.View Less
