Built-in oven: Consumer tips
A built-in oven primarily consists of a glass ceramic hob with several cooking zones. The heating method can vary: a ceramic hob operates optionally with the principle of heating coils, where spiral wires are heated by energy. If this functionality is complemented by cast iron plates, it is referred to as a mass cooking hob. The newer induction technology uses magnetic fields to transfer heat energy to compatible pots. The surface is similar in both variants and significantly increases safety features compared to gas or open heating coils, especially regarding burns or short circuits. While electric ovens require a thin layer for effective heat transfer, this is not as critical with the magnetic field.
built-in oven sets
Few buyers are interested in a simple oven, especially in a built-in version. Therefore, most manufacturers often combine the independently available component with an integrated oven. Again, the models vary greatly: fundamentally, the correct cooking space volume must be chosen, which largely ranges between 66, 67, and 71 litres. The cleaning effort should be considered at the time of purchase. Many models have an integrated cleaning system. In most cases, this works with pyrolysis. This process heats any residues to a high temperature and decomposes them into ash, making them easy to wipe away. In the case of catalysis, special coatings are used that prevent fat and other dirt from accumulating at all.
The hob in detail
In a built-in oven set, the number of cooking zones also varies. Most household items have four and use the electric mode. Especially with an induction hob, the possibilities are extremely flexible. Some models have hardly defined cooking zones with pot recognition, which only work where cookware has been placed. This option does not exist with a set that has a ceramic hob. However, many models have switchable areas. Then, one of the cooking zones in the built-in oven set is enlarged, for example, by an outer circle or turned into an oval roasting zone.
Modern technologies
An oven set is equipped with more and more technical innovations that significantly simplify cooking and cleaning. The glass ceramic hob itself features a programmable timer and a residual heat indicator. The latter serves energy saving and efficient use. In addition, child safety locks, quick heating functions, and other options are integrated. Most products are, by the way, a stainless steel built-in oven, which promises a long lifespan and, with the right choice, ensures a modernisation and beautification of the kitchen.
